The Department of Pharmacy promotes excellence in pharmaceutical sciences by encouraging active learning in a conducive environment. To meet the challenges to healthcare and the pharmacy profession, the Department follows curriculum that not only provides a solid foundation of the discipline, it also equips our graduates with required skills and knowledge to practice as a quality health care professional to serve the community, hospital and industry. Furthermore, to enhance the understanding and to have a hands-on experience, most of the courses are supported by practical training in well-equipped laboratories and clinical settings. Regular visits to the industry, hospital and guest lectures by experts from various pharmaceutical sectors are integral part of the training.

Apart from pharmacy related courses, a number of general courses in the area of humanities, computer science and communication are compulsory in order to provide the students with a social and psychological perspectives of the training, thereby ensuring a balanced personality. All the faculty members are well qualified, competent and experienced to provide quality education.

After successful completion of pharmacy curriculum, students are awarded Doctor of pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. The graduates can serve hospitals, industry, drug regulatory authorities, academia and fulfill the increasing demand of pharmacists at national and international level. Moreover, the graduates can continue their studies up to Master/PhD level and can contribute in the on-going pharmaceutical sciences research worldwide.

This program is designed to produce diversified concepts of Bioinformatics. The curriculum is a well thought out mixture of essential courses from biological sciences, computer sciences and mathematics. Keeping in view the modern requirements, the main focus is not only on biological research, a thorough understanding of divisive concepts such as database, programming and algorithms are also developed. Furthermore, to acquire hands on experience, most of the Bioinformatics courses are supported by projects and lab work.

In the final stages of their degree students are also placed in relevant industry as internees to further acquire real life problem-solving skills and gain exposure to the latest technologies in applications. The students are also required to complete a final year project based on either research or industrial problem. The project is expected to have some value to the organization or industry.

Microbiology is the study of microscopic organisms such as viruses, bacteria, algae, fungi, slime molds and protozoa. As the methods exploited to study and manipulate these organisms are different from the techniques used to study other domains of life, therefore, our BS Microbiology program is focused on biological investigations of microbes. Microbiologists can pursue their careers in various fields such as agriculture, food, environment, industrial microbiology, public health, pharmaceuticals, resource management, and Academia.

Biotechnology is the use of living organisms to create new products and processes. This field is an application of scientific and engineering principles to process materials by the use of biological agents to deliver goods and services. It is an applied science and has great scope in medical, agricultural, food and pharmaceutical sciences. Our BS Biotechnology curriculum has been designed to produce graduates with updated and practical knowledge of this multidisciplinary and emerging field.

Bioinformatics is a newly emerging field worldwide and more so in Pakistan. There is a growing scope for bioinformatics trained personnel in Pakistan in public sector as Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has declared it as a mandatory part of curriculum in all degree programs of biology. Therefore to cater the people from disciplines to bioinformatics, the course content of MS Bioinformatics program depends on the Bachelor’s degree which the student had earned. For instance, with a Bachelor in computer science, the candidate will have to study additional courses from the discipline of biological science to complement deficiencies in this area. Similarly, if the basic degree of candidate is in biological sciences then to complement the requirements, candidate will study more courses from the discipline of computer science, statistics and mathematics. Course advisors are assigned to help the candidate to make an appropriate choice amongst the offered courses to cover the deficiency the latest degree conferred. MS in Bioinformatics is a 2 years program comprising 4 semesters: one year for course work and one year for research/ Course work. The course work covers various areas from disciplines of Biological Sciences, Computer Sciences and Mathematics. In addition to core courses, students can choose from a number of elective courses in bioinformatics, computer sciences and biosciences.

The Department provides a vibrant and dynamic environment that encourages excellence in research specifically in the areas of Software Systems & Engineering, Multimedia & Communications, Web and Information Systems and Computational Business Intelligence. The PhD program aims at producing graduates who could meet the challenges of emerging international trends in Computer Science. To achieve this objective, we have a team of highly qualified and dedicated faculty members; a cohesive and carefully designed PhD program. A due emphasis has been placed on the applied and industrial aspects of the research. For this purpose, the Department has established a strong liaison with Research & Development organizations and industry.
